- An ontology that describes concepts depending both on a particular domain and task, which are often specializations of both domain and task ontologies. These concepts often correspond to roles played by domain entities while performing a certain activity, like replaceable unit or spare component.

- An ontology that contains all the definitions needed to model the knowledge required for a particular applicaton. It often extends and specializes the vocabulary of the domain and of task ontologies for a given application.
