D1 [ Guarino, 1998 ]
- An ontology that describes very general concepts like space, time, matter, object, event, action, etc., which are independent of a particular problem or domain. It seems therefore reasonable, at least in theory, to have unified top-level ontology for large communities of users.
D2 [ Arp et al., 2015 ]
- A highly general representation of categories and relations comon to all domains that helps to integrate and organize information accross different domains. It can also be called formal ontology.
D3 [ Gómez-Pérez et al., 2004 ]
- An ontology that describes very general concepts and provide general notions under which all root terms in existing ontologies should be linked.
