Basic Formal Ontology - BFO

  1. A top-level (or upper_level) ontology consisting of continuants or occurrent developed to support integration especially of data obtained through scientific research. BFO is deliberately designed to be very small, in order to represent in consistent fashion those top-level categories common to domain ontologies developed by scientists in different fields. BFO assists domain ontologists by providing a common top-level structure to support the interoperability of the multiple domain ontologies created in its terms.
